Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board Member Shamaiye Haynes says she will support a motion to release the findings of the investigation into Superintendent Crystal Hill.

 

 

 

CHARLOTTE — CMS Board Member Shamaiye Haynes said she will support a motion to release the findings of the investigation into Superintendent Crystal Hill. The motion is expected to be made at Tuesday’s CMS Board meeting.

“I think it brings a level of transparency to the question,” Haynes said. “A lot of times, our constituents are not upset about the outcome of something if they understand what it is you were trying to do in the first place.”

Haynes says attorneys will have to review and determine what exactly can be released, but she believes more can be said than what has been shared.

A person familiar with the motion tells Channel 9 it is expected to direct the Board’s attorney to prepare a report for public release by the September 9 meeting.

“I think that some people will be relieved that the questions that we asked that it wasn’t based on one person’s jealousy over another, or that it was non-objective,” she said. “I think it was worthwhile because again, we’re not in the day-to-day operations, and I think that if you have if members of our community and the public don’t have confidence in our school system, it’s a problem. It seems like we’re always behind in trust. I think that this is one of those areas where we had some things looked into, and hopefully we get to release those things publicly, and the public can see what it is we’re trying to do, and hopefully it builds some trust.”

A spokesman for CMS and Dr. Hill did not respond to a request for comment.

At a news conference Tuesday, Hill said she will talk about the investigation at a later date. She did not share when.
