Parents First in AI: A Major Step Forward

This week, the White House released the National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence, marking a significant step forward in addressing how emerging technology impacts children and families. We are encouraged to see a clear focus on what matters most: protecting children and upholding the fundamental rights of parents.

A central legislative recommendation from Donald Trump’s framework emphasizes safeguarding children while empowering parents—an approach that closely aligns with what we have been advocating for families across the country.

“President Trump’s AI framework makes one thing clear: parents must hold the keys to the AI toolbox as technology shapes the next generation,” said Tina Descovich, CEO and Co-founder of Moms for Liberty.

After meeting with the White House AI in Education Task Force in December, we are especially encouraged to see parents’ concerns reflected early in the framework, including:

  • Tools that give parents control over privacy, content, and screen time
  • Strong safeguards to protect children from harm
  • Clear limits on data collection and use

Last month, we launched our AI in Education toolkit to help parents better understand and navigate these rapidly evolving technologies, and we remain committed to leading on this issue.

We encourage parents, community leaders, and elected officials to join the thousands who have already signed the Safety in AI Education pledge. Together, we can continue sending a clear message to lawmakers: protecting children and defending parental rights must remain a top priority.
