Kanawha school board hopefuls outline goals at Moms for Liberty roundtable
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WCHS) — The upcoming election in May for Kanawha County Board of Education candidates opened the door for a roundtable Thursday, allowing families to ask those running what their goals are and how they can implement them.
Tia Palmer was one member of the crowd hoping to have her concerns addressed.
"My main concern is how long is the waiting period when a parent has a question or a concern with an email," Palmer said. "And how do they differentiate between being friends and colleagues with someone and still making it about the safety and concern of the children."
The roundtable hosted by Moms for Liberty brought in seven of the Board of Education candidates, each of which sharing their thoughts on how to better the school system. Topics included the role of artificial intelligence in the classroom as well as ways to address low proficiency numbers being discussed throughout.
"We have a lot of questions about things like the tech that's in schools and AI," Dawn Brown with Moms for Liberty said. "We have questions about parental rights. We have questions about the classical education versus the electronics in the classroom."
