Moms for Liberty Oklahoma opposes SJR20, which rejects new social studies standards

Moms for Liberty Oklahoma and several other organizations and individuals wrote a letter to local lawmakers, opposing Senate Joint Resolution 20 (SJR20).

SJR20 seeks to reject the State Board of Education's new social studies standards. Sen. Adam Pugh, the Chair of the Senate Education Committee, filed the joint resolution, saying implementing the new standards would cost $33 million and that there are questions surrounding the transparency of the subject matter.

Moms for Liberty Oklahoma states in the letter that this is not about flawed standards, but about political interference and media manipulation.

The letter states in part:

Oklahoma’s adoption process for academic standards has been consistent, legal, and transparent. Superintendent Ryan Walters and the State Board followed that same process to adopt strong, conservative, pro-American standards. Unfortunately, three State Board members were replaced just days before the final vote, disrupting a process underway for nearly a year. Now, some individuals are using that disruption as cover to try to reverse the results—results that reflect the will of the people.

The letter urges lawmakers to vote no on SJR20. The state legislature has until Thursday, May 1, to enact or reject the standards. If they take no action, the standards would go into effect.
