Moms for Liberty’s Emily Jones kicks off state board of education campaign
North Alabama native and founder of the first Moms for Liberty chapter in Alabama, Emily Jones, kicked off her campaign for a spot on the State Board of Education on Wednesday evening at The Ledges in Huntsville.
Before addressing her supporters, Jones spoke to 1819 News about why she has entered the District 8 race.
"It's our job as children of God to protect the innocent and protect our children," Jones said. "We have to set an example for our kids, and we're always going to do that."
"We're not going to shy away from it," she added.
Jones was asked if there was any particular event that nudged her into politics, specifically the board of education race.
"A lot of it was COVID when they were masking our kids," Jones explained. "My son goes to public school, and he had to wear one. I remember sending this long email to the school board and citing all these statistics and studies and countries that were doing away with masking. I sent it to the school board, thinking they're going to listen."
Jones, however, was disappointed by the response she received from the board.
"I got a very polite email back that said, thank you, but we're going to follow the guidance of the local health department," she said.
"That was it. That was truly the moment that I went, OK, this is not the bargain that I thought it was. This is a controlled asset. We've got to take a much broader view of what's going on."
