🔔 Recently, the new local organization, Create Healthy, shared that mental health was the greatest concern and most pressing issue in Fredericksburg. We think our children's education is the highest priority in our community.
The FISD School Board voted 7-0 to bring telehealth mental health services into our schools. Schools are not hospitals. Parents have the right and responsibility to control their child's healthcare, not the government. In light of the recent disappointing STAAR scores, we ask again that FISD gets the focus back on academics.
The district social worker is building up patients for mental health services by placing QR codes around school to confidentially meet with your children. She has also been presenting "Mental Health Mondays" on the morning announcements.
Parents, talk to your kids.
This telehealth service will diagnose and prescribe medicine. Within just 1-6 sessions students are diagnosed as mentally ill, ADHD, bipolar, etc…virtually. Parents aren’t at every session to give valuable input and answer questions. Parents, take your child to your trusted family physician.
What is the fundamental purpose for public school? To educate our children in essential knowledge and skills. Not expand government control over their lives, circumvent parents or become caregivers of students.
School clinics, telehealth services at school and anything else that expands the government’s control over your child’s life other than a good education is a bad idea.
