Call To Action
CALL TO ACTION!!
The NYS Education Dept has proposed amendments to sections of the Regulation of the Commissioner of Education related to Mixed Competition and Extra Class Athletic Activities (Sections 135.1, 135.4 & 135.5). The implications are as follows:
- Requires that if no selection process is employed, all students must be allowed to participate regardless of self-identified gender
- Removes the ability of a school district to determine if a male student-athlete will have a "significant adverse effect" upon the participation opportunities of female student-athletes
- Requires team selection criteria be posted on district's website if equivalent male/female sports are not available (ie Football). Requiring this removes their ability to select a team on factors that are not easily defined.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
- A 60-DAY COMMENT PERIOD STARTED MAY 22, 2024
We implore parents & community members to review the amendments & letters of opposition and submit comments ASAP! PUBLIC COMMENTS with data, views or arguments MAY BE SENT TO:
