How we fight

PROMOTE LIBERTY - We promote teaching the principles of liberty in our homes and community.

Illinois' General Assembly moved HB4417 to the Rules Committee on January 16, 2024.  With that, the likelihood of this bill becoming law is practically nil.  The bill, if passed, would provide "that all public high schools, including charter schools, shall designate and annually observe a week known as "Workplace Readiness Week".

It is reminiscent of nearly every totalitarian government in history for the schools be propaganda mills of the politically powerful.

Why we fight

The text of the legislation is brief, all of page 1 and the first 17 lines on page 2.  The other 23 pages are place holders, containing text that has nothing to do with a week of union propoganda.

During this week of union indoctrination, "the topics covered shall include, but are not limited to, local, State, and federal laws regarding each of the following areas and shall include the labor movement's role in winning the protections and benefits described in those areas:

  1. Prohibitions against misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
  2. Child labor.
  3. Wage and hour protections.
  4. Worker safety.
  5. Workers' compensation.
  6. Unemployment insurance.
  7. Paid sick leave and paid family leave.
  8. The right to organize a union in the workplace.
  9. Prohibitions against retaliation by employers when workers exercise their rights as workers or any other rights guaranteed by law."

Insights

  • Longtime observers of the Illinois General Assembly know that bills sent to the rules committee often die there.
  • Longtime observers of the Illinois General Assembly know that seemingly outrageous concepts are introduced year-after-year until one day the bill gets passed.

Joyful Warrior Plan

Put this on the back burner.
