Moms for Liberty – Seminole County Chapter Update

February 2026 Community & Legislative Update

Our chapter has been very active over the past several weeks, both locally here in Seminole County and at the Florida Capitol advocating for parental rights, student safety, and protections for our most vulnerable children.

Below is an important update for our families and a call to action for our community.

🏫 Next Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) School Board Meeting

πŸ“… Tuesday, March 10, 2026
πŸ•  5:30 PM

πŸ“ Location:
Educational Support Center
400 E. Lake Mary Blvd
Sanford, FL 32773

They almost always meet Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30 PM

We encourage parents to attend the upcoming School Board Meeting.

School boards make decisions that directly impact your child’s safety, data privacy, and educational environment. Parent presence matters. When families show up, policies change.

We will be speaking during public comment and invite any parent with concerns to join us.

⚠️ Lifetouch Vendor Concerns — Parent Call to Action

Our chapter has been made aware of serious concerns surrounding Lifetouch school photography services and how student information and images may be handled.

Parents have the right to know:
• How student images are stored
• Who has access to them
• Whether third-party vendors retain student data
• What protections exist against misuse

We are asking SCPS to review and remove vendors who cannot guarantee student privacy and data security.

What you can do:

  1. Email the school board

  2. Speak at a board meeting

  3. Ask your principal about your school’s photography contracts

  4. Request an opt-out option for your child

Our children’s images are not a commodity. Schools must prioritize student privacy.

🧩 Disability & Autism Days — Tallahassee Update

Several Seminole County parents, including members of our chapter, traveled to Tallahassee for Disability Day and Autism Awareness Day at the Capitol.

We met with both Republican and Democratic legislators and had productive bipartisan conversations focused on:

• Special education supports
• Parent transparency
• Classroom safety
• Services for students with autism and ESE needs

We are proud to say our voices as parents were heard.

πŸŽ₯ Classroom Cameras — HB 859

We continue to strongly support HB 859, which would require school districts to implement policies allowing video cameras in certain ESE classrooms.

For many families, including our own, sending a non-verbal or vulnerable child to school can be an act of trust. Cameras provide:
• Protection for students
• Protection for teachers
• Accountability
• Peace of mind for parents

This bill is about safety, not punishment — and many Florida parents are advocating for its passage.

πŸšͺ Elopement Safety Legislation (Bipartisan Effort)

We also support bipartisan work, including legislation being worked on with Representative Anna Eskamani and other lawmakers addressing student elopement (when children with disabilities wander or leave supervised areas).

For families of autistic children, elopement is not a behavioral issue — it is a life-safety issue.
Children have been injured and even lost their lives nationwide due to inadequate school safety procedures.

We are advocating for:
• Clear school protocols
• Staff training
• Parent notification policies
• Prevention planning

This is an issue that transcends politics. It is about protecting children.

πŸ€– Artificial Intelligence in Schools — Safety First

Artificial intelligence tools are being rapidly introduced into public education — often faster than policies are being created.

AI can be helpful, but without safeguards it raises serious concerns:

• Student data collection
• Behavioral tracking
• Psychological profiling
• Unmonitored chatbots interacting with minors
• Academic integrity and manipulation risks

We are asking SCPS to implement:
• Transparent AI policies
• Parent notification
• Opt-out options
• Age-appropriate safeguards
• Clear data privacy protections

Technology should support education — not experiment on children.
