YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED
Help Us Stop This Bill!
The mis-named “Freedom to Read" Act S2421 (SCS) is expected to be voted on in the NJ Senate on MONDAY, October 28th.
The identical bill A3446 (ACS) already passed the NJ Assembly back in June with a vote primarily down party lines. All Democrats in favor and almost all Republicans opposed, with the exception of Assemblywomen Nancy Munoz and Michele Matsikoudis, both from Legislative District 21. For more details click here.
- How can our representatives be so far apart on this issue?
- Why is this bill more concerned with protecting librarians than the children they are hired to serve?
- Why do librarians warrant immunity if there is no issue of criminality?
- Why would the bill require that any challenged book or material remain accessible to the children while under review?
- Why is no one being held accountable under the current New Jersey Statute N.J.S.2C:34-3 Obscenities for Persons Under Age 18?
The Freedom to Read Bill DOES NOT :
- Protect children from sexually-graphic materials in school libraries or public libraries
