Joey Brite, a second-waver of the American feminist movement who came out as a lesbian in 1971 at the age of 16. Very gender-nonconforming and the rebel child in a small family and the second daughter of an immigrant Latina mother, brite grew up loving the cinema and large photo-format magazines like Life and Look. These influences informed her taking up a camera as early as 12 years old as she had a strong interest in documenting daily life along with art and politics becoming her focus.
Active in community organizing and event production for years, brite used these skills in the growingly visible lesbian community during the 1970s, up until that community disappeared through the infiltration of Big Pharma and the social contagion of the gender ideology movement. In 2021 after she’d become aware of the top-down agenda to unmoor youth and even minor children from their own natural sexed bodies, she met with others to create nationwide protests in front of gender clinics across the country.
In early 2022, joey was approached by a frustrated mother of a young daughter who thought she was a boy, and was invited to work with this woman on the concept of a documentary showcasing the horrors of this modern medical scandal. It was decided that the focus would be on the very new phenomenon of the population of ‘detransitioners’, i.e. those young people who had socially and medically made the decision to try and pass as the opposite sex. Thus was born Affirmation Generation, later re-named No Way Back.
