Moms for Liberty North Carolina Legislative Committee Demands Removal of Rep. Julie von Haefen from North Carolina House Education Committee

The Moms for Liberty North Carolina Legislative Committee, representing parents and advocates committed to safeguarding parental rights and fostering safe, respectful educational environments, urgently calls for the immediate removal of Representative Julie von Haefen from the North Carolina House Education Committee. This demand follows her deeply troubling social media post endorsing violent imagery at the “No Kings” protest in Raleigh on June 14, 2025.

According to The Gateway Pundit, Rep. von Haefen shared a photo on social media from the protest, prominently featuring an effigy of the decapitated heads of President Donald Trump and his senior policy advisor, Stephen Miller. The image included a banner reading, “In These Difficult Times, Some Cuts May Be Necessary,” and the effigy of Miller, who is Jewish, was marked with a swastika, evoking hateful Nazi symbolism. Her public endorsement of this display through her social media post demonstrates a severe lapse in judgment and a disregard for the values of civility and inclusivity essential to public education.

Members of the Moms for Liberty North Carolina Legislative Committee have formally expressed their concerns in a letter to House Speaker Destin Hall, with copies sent to House Education Committee Chairs Representatives Brian Biggs, David Willis, and Tricia Cotham. The letter states:

“Rep. von Haefen’s public approval of violent imagery and antisemitic symbolism via her social media post is wholly unacceptable for a member of the House Education Committee. This committee shapes policies that impact curriculum, school safety, and the ethical development of our children. Her actions undermine the trust of parents and educators and risk normalizing divisive and harmful rhetoric in our schools.”

The House Education Committee holds a vital responsibility in shaping policies that guide North Carolina’s public education system. Rep. von Haefen’s behavior, as amplified by her social media post, contradicts the principles of respect, safety, and moral integrity that our schools strive to uphold. Public reaction on platforms like X has been one of widespread outrage, further highlighting the erosion of confidence in her ability to serve on this committee.

The Moms for Liberty North Carolina Legislative Committee implores Speaker Hall and the Education Committee leadership to act decisively by removing Rep. von Haefen from her position. This action is essential to restore public trust and ensure that those influencing our children’s education exemplify the highest standards of responsibility and decorum
