Parent Rights to keep sexually explicit and/or pornographic materials out of public school libraries has become controversial. Nationally, opposition to book banning is a red herring, it is not happening and parents have the right to protect their children. In Illinois, recent legislation went even further by threatening the end of funding if a public school librarian refuses any book or media from any student, regardless of age. Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulais advocates for this material to be in Illinois elementary schools.
In Illinois, if a book is not suitable for the public school library's youngest student, it should not be in the library!
