I Opted Out of Data Mining

Report on School

BIG NEWS:

We have secured a legal firm to restore the First Amendment and parental rights in Seattle Public Schools.  See Resources below to open our full  position statement.  We are seeking residents of the Seattle Public School District who hold values and religious beliefs that are being violated by the Seattle Public Schools (SPS). If you have been refused an opt out request, believe it is futile to try or have chosen to remove your children from SPS because of the objectionable curriculum, please contact us at [email protected]. We want to hear your story and if desired, will connect you with a legal firm seeking pro bono plaintiffs.

Cofounder and CEO, Tina Descovich, along with others, sent a letter to the White House decrying SPLC's defamatory and dangerous "hate map." This was a blueprint for intimidation.   From Tina:

Just days before our Joyful Warrior National Summit in Philadelphia, the SPLC dropped a hit piece labeling Moms for Liberty “extremist” and warning that our gathering would “inject extremism into the mainstream.”

What happened next? Chaos—fueled by their reckless smear:
•1,000+ protestors descended on our event.
•Windows smashed at the museum hosting us.
•“Washington Crossing the Delaware” vandalized.
•Global hackers took down our website—costing us tens of thousands to restore.

Do you think ubiquitous pride flags, identity months and ideology baked into the curriculum don't matter? A local school district has seen a 2,250% rise in gender confusion in the last 5 years  see Brandi Kruse's brief video to see if your district is one of the worst.

Excellent article by Jeffrey Tucker on concerns about AI's impact on learning. "...there is a threat that AI will dissolve the capacity to think, simply because we are not required to do so."

This 2022 conversation between Charlie Kirk and self described "radical feminist" Kara Dansky briefly explores the history of the "transgender" movement and how to respond.

You have been asking about the West Coast Alliance and whether or not it mandates the COVID "vaccine."  See Jim Walsh's excellent summary of its significance:  Combined with the “alliance,” HB 1531 makes Washingtonians suspect dubious vaccine mandates are coming. But, even with HB 1531 in law, the governor would still have to declare an emergency first.

In light of Seattle's refusal to allow opt outs, I recommend reading the recent SCOTUS decision: Mahmoud v Taylor.  Here is one of its many nuggets of wisdom, not to mention jurisprudence: the "decision to withhold notice to parents and to forbid opt outs, substantially interferes with the religious development of petitioners’ children and imposes the kind of burden on religious exercise that Yoder found unacceptable. The books are unmistakably normative. They are designed to present certain values and beliefs as things to be celebrated, and certain contrary values and beliefs as things to be rejected."

The numbers are staggering.  There is a 1,260% increase in nonbinary identities in the last 10 years.  23% of Gen Z identify as LGBTQ.

The University of Washington gets an "F" on the free speech rankings from FIRE - fourth worst in the nation!  See this excellent blog from UW Professor Cliff Mass.  Should a conservative professor try to get a job there, to offer a diverse viewpoint, they are out of luck.  See this statement from their job application: A one-page diversity statement describing your identity, positionality, experience and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and alignment to the APA's Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Framework. In addition, describe your philosophy of teaching and learning, including how your work will further the College of Education’s commitment to racial equity and social justice.

When Progressives fail, they change the definition of success.  While OSPI has previously been transparent in their failure, they are now going underground.  Dismal scores used to be reported as "proficient," and then changed to "college ready without remediation."  Last year, they added a metric: "foundational" which made scores look better.  This year, they have removed proficient/college ready.  What does "foundational" mean according to the Smarter Balanced Assessment Coalition (SBAC): "foundational" refers to Level 2, indicating that a student has basic skills but may not fully meet grade-level expectations. "Proficient," or Level 3, means the student meets the standard and demonstrates a solid understanding of the material.

This means according to OSPI's 2025 report, nearly 30% don't even have below grade-level skills in ELA and they are afraid to report how many are at grade level.  Very disappointing Chris Reykdal!

We are heartbroken over yesterday's brutal assassination of Charlie Kirk.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and coworkers. May thousands of Charlie Kirks arise to follow in his footsteps.  Imagine the conversations going on today in heaven.  "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

From our First Lady:

Charlie’s children will be raised with stories instead of memories, photographs instead of laughter, and silence where their father’s voice should have echoed.

Charlie Kirk’s life should serve as a symbolic reminder that compassionate awareness elevates family, love, and country.

Our Vice Chair was interviewed by KOMO News regarding Seattle's refusal to honor opt outs from objectionable material, in violation of the SCOTUS Mahmoud decision.  Please scroll down to Resources and print the opt out form to protect your child from material that violates your values or religious beliefs.  If your district does not accommodate your request, let us know immediately

September 7, 2025

As you have likely heard, Seattle Public Schools is not accepting opt outs from objectionable material, in violation of the recent SCOTUS decisions.  Rest assured, our chapter is working with other state chapters and national, to address this. More information and guidance to come. Here is an example of what kindergartners cannot opt out of.

I'm back from vacation and our kids are back in school - time to get back to work!

Read this excellent article on literacy: "Illiteracy is a form of darkness, and an illiterate populace is not one equipped to handle the demands of a world filled with forms and papers and words, let alone be the voting citizens of a democratic society."

August 12, 2025

I will be on vacation until after Labor Day and so won't be updating posts.  However, I urge you all to check out these podcasts and videos over the next few weeks:

1. The Sold a Story series is an outstanding explanation of the reading wars and how things went so wrong in education.

2.  The FTC launched an investigation of deceptive practices in "gender affirming care."  See this series of videos with introductions from WA Parents Network.

3.  Check out M4LU for great articles and videos from past semesters.

Have a wonderful finish to your summer.  Come back energized as we have a lot of work to do once school starts!

Thank you to Dawn Land for providing Brandi Kruse photos (see 6 min. mark) of the July 26 drag queen event at an elementary school in Bonney Lake.  While we have been vacationing with our families, the alphabet mafia remains hard at work sexualizing our children.

It has belatedly come to my attention that the author of my favorite history textbook, Land of Hope, has written a young reader's addition. Parents and grandparents - familiarize yourself with this incredible textbook (original college-level or young reader's edition) so you can identify the biases, omissions and errors in the history your children are getting.

August 5, 2025

You are likely familiar with the terrific Tuttle Twins books but did you know they now offer an Academy for teens?  Parents and grandparents - wouldn't this be an awesome gift for your kids!

August 3, 2025

So you think the NEA is about protecting and education children? The NEA recently scrubbed its 434-page 2025 handbook—likely because it exposes a political agenda that erases Jewish suffering, promotes racial quotas, pushes “educational reparations,” and attacks homeschooling, while ignoring student learning and achievement.  Defending education saved it before it was scrubbed.

August 2, 2025

Many districts in America have a school named after Horace Mann.  Who was he?  Read this brief article about what he did to education in America.  He said: “We who are engaged in the sacred cause of education are entitled to look upon all parents as having given hostages to our cause.”

August 1, 2025

Parents - as you send your children off to camp this August, be aware of who the counselors are.  One person let me know that upon return from a reportedly Christian YMCA camp, her 12 year told her the counselor was transgender and the kids were forced into discussions about the issue.  Not exactly the canoeing, horseback riding etc. adventure they expected!
