Alabama must lead the charge for American Patriotism Month
Next year, America will turn 250 years old – a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. President Trump has already declared that the entire year will be a grand, national celebration of our country’s history, our victories, and our exceptional place in the world. Communities from coast to coast will take part.
But here’s the truth – our kids won’t fully appreciate the magnitude of that celebration unless we start preparing them now. And Alabama has the chance to lead the way.
Right now, federal law requires schools to teach about the U.S. Constitution every September in recognition of Constitution Day. That’s good. But let’s be honest – one day isn’t enough to spark real patriotism in the hearts of our children.
That’s why I’m calling for September to be officially declared “American Patriotism Month” in Alabama. Every week, our students should be learning about the greatness of America – our founding principles, the courage of our soldiers, the sacrifices of our veterans, the service of our first responders, and the blessings of liberty that make our country the envy of the world. And they should be hearing these lessons directly from those who have lived them. Imagine a firefighter explaining to students what it means to protect their neighbors, or a veteran telling them why they chose to put on the uniform. These conversations leave lasting impressions that no worksheet ever could.
Moms for Liberty is ready to make it happen with two key programs:
-
Teacher Resource Packets – Complete with ready-to-use lesson plans and printable classroom materials to make planning simple for teachers.
-
Patriot Packets – Families, businesses, or individuals can sponsor a classroom packet that includes U.S. flags for students, patriotic stickers for students, and classroom posters for teachers to proudly display.
We’re also looking for guest speakers – veterans, first responders, public servants, and community leaders – who are willing to visit classrooms and share what it means to serve. And if you’re a teacher who wants to bring a speaker into your classroom, email us at [email protected].
As a mom, I know how important it is that our kids understand what they’re inheriting. Patriotism is not automatic – it’s taught, modeled and reinforced. And in a time when our culture too often focuses on tearing America down, we must be intentional about lifting her up.
