The nomination of Kash Patel for FBI director by President-elect Donald Trump could not come at a more pivotal moment. As a concerned citizen and co-founder of Moms for Liberty, I’ve witnessed firsthand the chilling effect that federal overreach can have on parental rights and free speech. Patel, with his background and outspoken commitment to dismantling what he calls the “deep state,” represents a beacon of hope for parents across America who fear their voices are being silenced.

For too long, parents who have dared to question school board policies, curricula, or the direction of our educational system have been met not just with resistance but with intimidation. The Department of Justice and the FBI, under the guise of protecting educational institutions, have targeted parents, such as those in our organization, for simply exercising their First Amendment rights. The labeling of parents as “domestic terrorists” for speaking out at school board meetings is not just an overstep — it’s an affront to American values.

My own testimony before the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government highlighted the stark reality of this situation. Members of our very community, who spoke up for transparency and accountability in education, found themselves under investigation by the FBI. This isn’t about left or right — this is about right and wrong. It’s about ensuring that parents can speak up for their children without fear of governmental retribution.

Kash Patel brings a unique perspective to this role. His experience in national security, coupled with his vocal critique of the misuse of governmental power, uniquely positions him to reform the FBI from within. Here’s why his nomination should be supported.

1. Understanding of parental rights

Patel’s background suggests a deep respect for constitutional rights. His tenure at various intelligence and defense roles indicates an understanding of the balance needed between security and civil liberties. His leadership could pivot the FBI toward genuinely protecting, rather than policing, America’s citizens.

2. Commitment to accountability

Patel’s statements show a commitment to rooting out abuses of power. His potential to oversee the FBI could ensure that the bureau focuses on real threats to national security rather than on parents who are merely concerned about their children’s education.

3. Restoration of trust

The FBI needs to rebuild trust with the public. Under Patel’s leadership, there’s a chance for the FBI to refocus its mission away from political vendettas. His nomination sends a powerful message that the agency’s role is to serve the public, not to serve political agendas.

4. A new direction for the FBI

Patel’s vision for the FBI, as outlined in his writings, involves a significant overhaul aimed at ensuring the agency operates with integrity. This includes combating the “deep state,” which, for many parents, symbolizes the unchecked bureaucratic power that has led to their targeting.

The concerns of parents across the nation are not unfounded. The FBI, under its current leadership, has shown a troubling willingness to label dissent as extremism. Kash Patel’s nomination offers an opportunity to reset this course. It’s an opportunity to ensure that those who speak out for their families, for transparency, and for education reform are not met with the heavy hand of federal investigation but with an open dialogue and respect for their constitutional rights.

In supporting Kash Patel, we are not just backing a candidate for FBI director — we are backing a return to principles where the government serves its citizens, not the other way around. Let this be a moment where we reaffirm our commitment to liberty, where the FBI becomes an institution that protects the American dream rather than stifling it.
