Alabama’s state board of education will have two new members.

Four state board of education seats were up for election on Nov. 3. The two incumbent candidates kept their seats and two new members were elected.

The State Board of Education oversees policy decisions for Alabama’s public school system.

Moms for Liberty activist Emily Jones, a Republican, won the District 8 seat on the State Board of Education. District 8 covers Limestone, Madison and DeKalb counties. Republican Wayne Reynolds, who is retiring, currently holds the seat. Jones won 53.73% against former Parent-Teacher Association President Shatika Armstrong, a Democrat.

Jones founded the Madison County chapter of Moms for Liberty, a conservative parental rights organization that opposes LGBTQ+ and race-related topics in schools.
