HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Madison County chapter of Moms for Liberty is preparing to host its second annual fundraiser later this month, with plans to raise money for parental rights advocacy across North Alabama. But this year’s keynote speaker—Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene—is drawing both support and criticism from the community.

The event, scheduled for June 28 at The Brewers Cooperative at Stovehouse in Huntsville, aims to fund local and statewide efforts to support what organizers call the fundamental rights of parents to guide their children’s upbringing.

“I think ultimately what we're hoping is that parents can realize that we can be politically different. We can be Republican, Democrat, independent, we can be all those things,” said Emily King, chair of the Madison County chapter. “Then ultimately, what we have in common as parents is that we want the best for our children.”

King said the decision to invite Greene, known for her outspoken conservative views, was expected to generate attention.

“Honestly, we expected it,” she said. “She does not hold back on anything. She tells you exactly where she stands, and that tends to ruffle feathers pretty easily.”

After the announcement was made, social media comments ranged from enthusiastic support to sharp criticism. Some praised Greene’s involvement, while others expressed disapproval.

King emphasized that the focus should remain on the purpose of the event rather than the individual headlining it.

“All the money raised from the event stays here locally in our chapter,” she said. “It goes back into activities in our community, you know, here in Madison and across North Alabama and that's ultimately what the purpose of the event is—to invest in your local community so that we can go out, educate parents, help them fight for their rights and help them to protect their children. She just happens to be the keynote speaker.”
