Senate Candidate Dave McCormick Joins Betsy DeVos at Moms for Liberty Event

Dave McCormick, the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania, criticized transgender athletes in sports and “woke” ideology in schools and voiced support for using public education funding for private schools during an appearance Wednesday afternoon in Nazareth alongside former U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

The event was hosted by the Northampton County chapter of Moms for Liberty.

McCormick and DeVos, who was secretary of education under President Donald Trump, both said they were concerned about transgender female athletes competing in school sports, though neither cited specific examples during the panel.

“The very idea that you could allow biological males to compete with biological females is fundamentally unfair and it will gut women’s sports,” McCormick said.

He criticized U.S. Sen. Bob Casey for a 2023 letter in which the Democrat said that concerns over transgender athletes in high school and college sports are “overgeneralized.”
